Sunburst Beaker - Wayne Meeten
Influenced by his extensive training in Japan, Master maker Wayne Meeten’s pieces exude a quiet calm, but are a sensory extravaganza for the soul. Wayne’s 24 years of training, included learning extensively from living Japanese National Treasures such as Katsuri Morohito & Norio Tamagawa in his quest to perfect his skills. Deeply thoughtful, Wayne expresses in his work, his gentle outlook on life and his passion for Tai Chi Chuan - the soothing and rhythmic movement of which are clearly expressed in all his work regardless of scale.
These exquisite Sunburst beakers were inspired by a woodland walk, close to his Devon home at the beginning of the 2020 pandemic. At a time of great anxiety and uncertainty for the entire nation, Wayne found faith and hope in the strength of nature. The rays of sunlight firmly pushing their way through the canopy of ancient trees spread over head, reinforced the idea that adversity can be overcome, and that hope remains. The negative spaces in the design indicate the potential to find creative solutions - the Tao of the universe.
These beakers are small masterpieces in their own right; objects to to hold, contemplate, savour, meditate - they quietly and joyfully express Wayne’s sensitivity for the world and his craft. His work clearly crosses the boundary between pure craft and fine art.
Please note the two beakers in stock are two different designs, additional Sunburst beakers can be made to order and are available in a variety of sizes.
