the Directory
The Directory is a free to use resource to find specialists in particular techniques for commissioning, teaching or mentoring. Stage two of the project - a resource list for makers will follow. These will be live lists and updated as circumstances change.
The directory is created from data from our silversmithing census to create an accurate picture of skills and promote makers to the public, and to each other. Please note the census is in two parts; part one collects information for the new directory, which will be available online. The data from the second part of the survey will NOT be available publicly, and will only be included in our final report in an anonymous format, and even then, only with your consent. This information will enable us to better understand the challenges the industry is facing. Our aim is to provide clarity for industry bodies and stakeholders to enable planning and funding to be targeted where it is most urgently required.
We are proud to work with the Heritage Crafts Association on their famous Red List (currently updating for 2023) the Red List is an invaluable tool to understand which craft disciplines need support to train more makers, enabling culturally important crafts to be safeguarded for future generations.
Please note inclusion on our list is not an endorsement - suppliers we work personally with are highlighted in bold.

M - Mastery expressed in years 5/10/20/30/40/50 etc
A - Consultant for advice or mentoring
C - Open to collaborations
E - Endangered and at risk disciplines on the HCA Red List
