beaker people
4400 years ago…
Britain saw significant population changes, people living in Central Europe migrated to Britain almost completely replacing the Neolithic communities who were responsible for huge megalithic monuments such as Stonehenge.
These new Bronze Age inhabitants brought with them distinctive pottery which thousands of years later would come to name this transition… the beaker fragments found in their burials gave rise to their name - Beaker people.
In homage to the wonderful pottery of this period we have selected what we feel are the best of contemporary silver beakers to celebrate this important transition.
The techniques used to create these drinking vessels for modern day Beaker people are equally ancient! Many of the tools and techniques used by contemporary silversmiths differ little from those used thousands of years ago… it is the expression of these skills which has changed - our makers give new and individual voices to these amazing heritage skills.
