THE silversmithing CENSUS
2022
We very pleased to be collaborating with the Heritage Crafts Association Red List & University of Oxford to create a census of the Silversmithing Industry. The aims of this Census are four fold:
To create an online directory to highlight makers and enable the public to find specialists.
To create a database for makers and students to find specialist suppliers / teachers.
To create an accurate picture of endangered skills for the 2023 HCA Red List
To enable stakeholders to plan or target funding where it is most urgently needed.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This survey is in two parts - part one collects information for the new Directory which will be available online from the Heritage Crafts Association Red List and Craftmasters websites, enabling the public to find specialists in specific skill, or for other makers or prospective students to find a specialist to teach, mentor or collaborate with them.
The data from the second part of the survey will NOT be available publicly, and will only be included in our final report in an anonymous format, and even then, only with your consent.
This information will enable us to better understand the challenges the industry is facing. Our aim is to provide clarity for funding bodies and industry stakeholders to enable planning and funding to be targeted where it is most urgently required.
The full census will be run every two years to maintain an accurate picture of the industry.
This survey should take between five and ten minutes to complete.
Please do not refresh the page until you have completed all the questions, and pressed submit.
Your input helps us create an accurate, up to date account of the industry. We greatly appreciate your time and help with this huge and important project and hope together we can create positive change.
Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for completing the survey!
If you have opted to be included online in The Silversmiths Directory, this will be updated annually, and at your request. An admin fee of £10 will be billed on annual publication (no extra charges for updates during the course of the year). The fee covers inclusion in multiple disciplines: if you have registered a number of skills your details will be duplicated in each relevant skills category.
